Academic staff

The core academic teaching staff for this course at CityU are:

  • Jan Schnupp (professor, course director). Jan has a long standing interest in systems and sensory neuroscience, particularly of the auditory system. His own research interests focus on how neural activity encodes and processes sensory information. He has over 20 years experience in teaching neuroscience.
  • Wenjun Xiong (assistant professor). Wenjun is an expert on the visual system, with wide ranging expertise from neural representations of visual information in the cerebral cortex to cellular mechanisms of degenerative diseases of the retina. Her teaching on this course is often praised by students for its particular clarity.
  • Sungchil Yang (assistant professor). Sungchil started his research career studying physiological processes of auditory information coding, but his research interest is increasingly broader, spanning a variety of neural functions and disorders, from epilepsy to chronic pain and tinnitus, which he studies with an equally wide range of different techniques.

In Semester A 2018/19 we will also be joined by

  • Mitch Sutter (professor at UC Davis) who is visiting HK CityU as a Fullbright Fellow. Mitch too brings over 20 years of experience in teaching and researching neuroscience to the table.
